FAQs

Have questions you need answered? Here are a few of the most commonly asked questions, but if you don’t find what you need, please email us at dig@growtogethergarden.org.

What is the annual fee for a garden bed at GrowTogether Garden?

The annual fee for a 4’x 12′ x 24″ garden bed is $120. If you want anyone additional to work your bed with you, you must add $15 for a Friend of the Garden fee (for each additional person). You must complete the Gardener Application and sign the Gardener Guidelines to become a garden bed member.

What does my annual garden bed fee include?

In addition to your garden bed, your fee includes the water, soil, irrigation timer, irrigation materials, and access to the herb garden bed, compost, coffee grounds (for nitrogen), classes, some tools, and special events.

As a garden bed member, do I also need to volunteer my time to the garden?

Yes! Participation is vital to the success of the community garden. Each garden member is asked to donate at least one hour a month 3 or 4 times a year for garden upkeep and community participation. Members are notified of days and times when our “work parties” are scheduled. Come and get to know your fellow gardeners!

What are the benefits of being a Friend of the Garden member (when I don't have a bed)?

The $15 annual fee to become a Friend of the Garden allows you free access to all GrowTogether Garden classes, community events, archived information, and discounts. You will also be notified when we hold special events.

What is the policy for garden beds when they are all full? Is there a waiting list?

Yes, when all beds are rented, you can complete a Garden Waiting List form and available beds will be offered on a first-come first-served basis in the Spring. The bed rental is from May 1 through April 30th each year.

At GrowTogether Garden does everyone grow and harvest from all the beds?

No. In our garden, you will grow your own plants in your rented bed and harvest whatever you have grown. No gardener is to take produce or plants from other gardeners’ beds unless they have permission to do so from those gardeners. However, we encourage you to share your surplus produce with others. If you need help sharing your produce, email us at dig@growtogethergarden.org and we’ll provide you with local non-profit options.

What tools do I need to begin gardening?

Most of us use gardening gloves and you might need a hand spade or hori hori knife for planting. You will also be responsible for any soil amendments or compost that you choose to use. There are additional tools like rakes and shoves in the greenhouse for you to borrow as well. Just be sure you return items used so they are available for others.
